About the exhibition
8 HOURS OF MOTIVATIONAL TUNES is about merging different visual languages into a collective provocation to keep ourselves moving forward. We constantly find our lives caught between what we perceive as real and what digital reality delivers to us. We get stuck between the urge to explore and be present in nature and the struggle to do so in our very limited time and financial possibilities. A pause imposed by nature made us encounter uncommon segments of reality, acknowledge the peculiarity of ordinary gestures and advance the power of the internet to a state of an almost augmented reality.
Subdued by their realities, our artists talk to each other through similar visual triggers, as such the exhibition brings forward points of rhythm and syncope that move the visitor towards an uninterrupted examination of what he sees.
A pair of heavy sneakers, some lead-like wings and a series of snails brought to rest meet a projection from the edge of the absurd, some stifling agglomerations of abstract shapes and an almost claustrophobic installation.
You enter the exhibition space and see an agglomeration, not sure of what. The mediums, the styles and approaches are so different, you might not be sure if you are dealing with a poor choice of exhibition design or some really good installations. Because that’s the thing with artist collaborations, they rarely actually collaborate. But here, with this group of artists, their very different vocabularies merge, as they do every time they meet in such circumstances, in a very reflective manner. Reflective of what? Of whatever stimulates their minds at that particular moment, in that particular time frame.
Despite how different they are, this exhibition looks similar to what we can only imagine an inside of a mind looks like, filled with apparently random objects, while actually a mirror of all our reactions to the world surrounding us.
Constantly flooded with visual and textual information, we try to wrap our heads around what is true and what actually works in our society. Are the structures we confine our well-being into really interested and capable of protecting our needs, rights and day-to-day existence? We try to react to what we see, to what is happening to us, and through that we unknowingly create our own language of soothing, of coping with the unfamiliar and ultimately with the fearsome.
